Matrix LED headlights use multiple individually controlled LED segments to create a more precise beam of light. Instead of treating the headlight as one light source, the system can adjust different sections independently. Audi Matrix LED technology can adapt the distribution of light to changing driving conditions and surrounding traffic.

LED headlights use LEDs as their primary light source. Matrix LED headlights use multiple individually controlled LED segments, allowing sections of the beam to be adjusted independently. Digital Matrix LED headlights take this concept further with digitally controlled light modules that provide more precise control over illumination and enable additional digital lighting functions.

Adaptive vehicle lighting automatically adjusts a vehicle's illumination based on changing driving conditions. Depending on the system, adjustments can respond to factors such as vehicle speed, steering, road layout and surrounding traffic. Audi offers several adaptive lighting technologies that can automatically modify the distribution of light while driving.

Adaptive headlights use information from cameras, sensors and other vehicle systems to determine how the headlights should illuminate the road. Depending on the system, it can adjust the direction or distribution of the light as conditions change. More advanced systems, such as Matrix LED and Digital Matrix LED headlights, can control individual sections of the beam.

OLED, or organic light-emitting diode, technology produces light across thin, flat surfaces rather than relying exclusively on individual point light sources. This allows drivers to enjoy distinctive shapes and highly uniform illumination as well as enabling lighting animations. Audi has incorporated OLED technology into rear lighting, where individually controllable segments can also support intricate lighting signatures and communication functions.

OLED technology offers considerable flexibility because light can be distributed across thin, individually controllable surfaces. This can create highly uniform illumination while allowing rear-light designs to be shaped in distinctive ways resulting in stylistic designs. Audi uses OLED technology to combine these design possibilities with digitally controlled lighting functions on compatible models.

A lighting signature is the distinctive visual pattern created by a vehicle's headlights or rear lights. It helps give a vehicle a recognizable appearance, both when the lights are illuminated and as part of its overall exterior design. Audi uses digital lighting technologies to create distinctive lighting signatures across selected models resulting in enhanced aesthetic options for drivers.

Some vehicles allow drivers to select between available lighting signatures, depending on the model and equipment. LED and digital OLED technologies give manufacturers greater flexibility to create different patterns and arrangements of light including lighting animations. On compatible Audi models, selectable lighting signatures can change the appearance of the vehicle's lighting.

Modern automotive lighting is designed to provide effective illumination of the road and surrounding environment. Technologies such as adaptive and Matrix LED lighting can adjust where light is distributed as driving conditions change. This gives manufacturers greater control over illumination while helping drivers see the road, road features and surrounding conditions.

Automotive lighting has progressed from conventional incandescent and halogen lamps to increasingly sophisticated LED technologies. LED technology has developed into systems like Matrix LED, Digital Matrix LED for increasingly precise control of forward illumination, while OLED technology has enabled new possibility in rear lighting. Modern systems can do more than illuminate the road: they can adapt light distribution, create distinctive lighting signatures and integrate digitally controlled functions. Audi has continued to develop lighting as both a functional technology and an important element of vehicle design.

Audi combines lighting technology, vehicle functionality and exterior design across its model lineup. Depending on the model, Audi lighting can include LED, Matrix LED, Digital Matrix LED and OLED technologies. These systems provide different levels of control over illumination while also allowing Audi to develop distinctive lighting signatures and new digital lighting functions.
