Software updates

Eligibility* depends on vehicle-specific and country.specific factors. Check in your myAudi app* in the vehicle tab under “All functions” whether the “Software update” function is displayed. If it is available, then your vehicle supports online updates.Alternatively, you can check on the MMI under “Settings > Software update” whether an update is possible, if functionality is available. 

New functions and product optimisations can be installed directly in your vehicle{ft_software-updates} without visiting your Audi Service Partner. This means that your vehicle software stays up to date – like with your smartphone.

Available updates are displayed to you on the MMI and in the myAudi app{ft_myaudi-app} as soon as they are available. If using myAudi app, myAudi account is required. To install, follow the displays on the MMI. The vehicle{ft_software-updates} cannot be used during installation. Once started, an update cannot be interrupted. The download takes place automatically in the background. 

The latest software version is downloaded automatically while driving. There are no costs involved. A notification on the MMI and in the myAudi app{ft_myaudi-app} appears as soon as installation is possible. You can then start the update on the MMI.

The installation duration depends on the scope of the respective update and is displayed on the MMI. During this time, the vehicle{ft_software-updates} cannot be used. Therefore, choose a time that suits you.

If your vehicle{ft_software-updates} supports online software updates, this is activated before it leaves the factory. Retrofitting is unfortunately not possible.

No. The vehicle{ft_software-updates} cannot be driven during an ongoing update. Individual functions are also only available to a limited extent, e.g. no music can be played during an MMI update.

The release notes can be found in the myAudi app{ft_myaudi-app} under “Vehicle tab > All functions > Software update”. They are also shown on the MMI and on the Audi website.

Not every update results in visible changes. Larger updates may include new functions and noticeable improvements, while smaller updates make important optimizations in the background – for example, to improve system stability.

No. As soon as an update is started, it can no longer be cancelled.

No. Software updates do not use smartphone or in-vehicle hotspot data. Your private data allowance is not used and no additional costs are incurred.

In principle, the installation can be done anywhere the vehicle can receive a signal. Make sure the vehicle is parked in a safe location, as the vehicle cannot be used during the installation. All Audi connected services and emergency response systems will be inactive during this time. Therefore, avoid locations that need to be cleared quickly (e.g. car garages, loading zones, entrance/exit areas). Installation abroad is not recommended. 

The provision of new updates varies depending on vehicle model{ft_software-updates}. As soon as new software is available, you will informed via your MMI and/or the myAudi app,{ft_myaudi-app} if applicable. Active myAudi account required.
