How it works:
When so equipped, Rear Cross Traffic Alert can detect vehicles approaching from the side while backing up. If a vehicle is approaching, the system can provide audio and visual warnings and even brake automatically.
Instructions:
- To engage, activate the Rear Cross Traffic Alert in the MMI, under the Parking Aid heading under Vehicle.
- With the vehicle in reverse, the rear and side sensors can detect vehicles approaching.
- The Rear Cross Traffic assist will display in the MMI, along with the rear camera image. If a vehicle is approaching:
Audible Warning: An audio signal may sound as an additional warning when driving in reverse.
Automatic Brake Activation: If you do not react to a warning, a brief braking by the system can warn you of a potential collision with an approaching object.
The audible warning signal and the automatic brake activation occur only when driving in reverse.
- You can turn the rear cross traffic assist on or off in the parking aid menu in the MMI.
Limitations:
-Vehicle must be in reverse with the parking aid active.
-Speed while driving backwards is not higher than approximately 6 mph.
-The following are some examples of situations that can lead to unwanted braking:
- Steep driveways or ramps
- Driving at low speeds over drainage ditches
- Lowered ride height, which can be caused by heavy cargo
- Damage to or misalignment of the sensor or sensor mounting.
- Sensor blockage, which can be caused by ice/snow buildup, dirt, mud or leaves.
- Installation of non Audi Genuine Accessories such as trailer hitches, spoilers, bumpers, etc.
- Noise disturbance or other active ultrasound sources in the vicinity
-The following situations may cause unexpected warnings to occur:
- Steep slopes or driveways
- Plants/shrubs of certain height
- Nearby curbs
- Gravel, cobblestones, potholes
- Sharp bends in the road
