NACS FAQ
North American Charging System (NACS), standardized as SAE J3400 by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), is the name for the charging connector used at certain charging stations, such as the Tesla Supercharger Network.
All Audi BEVs on the road today have charging ports designed to work with Combined Charging Standard (CCS1) connectors. Because Tesla Superchargers use North American Charging System (NACS) connectors, an Audi NACS DC Charging adapter will be required to charge at NACS Partner site stations.
Adapters are intended for DC fast charging use only. The Audi NACS DC Charging adapter is NOT for use with Home Chargers, Mobile Connectors, Tesla Destination Chargers, or any other AC chargers. Improper use or installation of the Audi NACS DC charging adapter may cause severe damage and/or injury.
Beginning in September, new buyers of Audi Q6 e-tron / A6 Sportback e-tron / e-tron GT model families will receive the Audi NACS DC charging adapter as a port installed accessory. Availability of the adapter for purchase by existing Audi e-tron model owners is subject to a future announcement. The Q4 e-tron is subject to a future announcement. The Q4 e-tron is not currently able to utilize the Audi NACS DC adapter or any other NACS adapter.
The Audi NACS DC Charging Adapter has an MSRP of $200 as a port installed accessory. Availability of the adapter for purchase by existing e-tron model owners is subject to a future announcement.
Limited NACS Partner DC fast charging network stations are equipped with a “magic dock”; a built-in adapter available for customer use. Most compatible NACS Partner DC fast charging network stations will require the customer to bring their own Audi NACS DC Charging Adapter.
Starting in September, the myAudi app and Audi Navigation will show available compatible NACS Partner DC fast charging stations.
