About April Gargiulo

April Gargiulo has a simple philosophy – unparalleled quality and efficacy – inspired by her background in fine winemaking and its uncompromising standards. She leads her company, Vintner’s Daughter, by that same guiding principle of “fewer but better ingredients” and the idea of providing incredible quality, transparency through sourcing and a focus on sustainabily and social good.

“We’ve had two products in seven years,” she says of her company’s Active Botanical Serum and Active Treatment Essence. To have so few products is unique in the industry and a point of pride for April, who delights in minimizing the environmental impact and use of natural resources.

April is committed to sustainability in every part of her her business. Vintner’s Daughter’s sustainable approach to skincare includes responsible sourcing from organic producers to better packaging with boxes made with 80 percent post-consumer recycled materials, eco-friendly ink and recyclable glass.

“You name it and we are focused on it from a sustainability standpoint, from the sourcing of raw materials to our packaging and shipping to our offices and everything in between,” she says. “What we do in service of sustainability more than anything else is that we produce fewer but better products. We’re not on this constant churn of new, new, new.”

Andy Goldsworthy's Wood Line

Presidio Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94129

Artist Andy Goldsworthy created the Wood Line sculpture in the Presidio of San Francisco in 2010. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees that were planted in the 1880s, the Wood Line art piece fills the gap left by cypress trees that subsequently dwindled. The wood for the art was sourced from local projects that required tree removal, like environmental remediation and habitat restoration. It lays on the ground in a winding, sloping line, as a symbol of how man-made structures and nature can co-exist.
