How it works:

When so equipped, Adaptive Cruise Assist, is a cruise control system that can also assist with acceleration and/or braking to maintain a driver selected gap to the vehicle in front. It can also provide steering support to assist with keeping the vehicle in the lane.

Instructions:

Adaptive Cruise Assist combines Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering.

Adaptive Cruise Control

A combination of speed and distance regulation helps maintain the distance between the vehicle and another vehicle driving ahead by accelerating and braking as necessary. To activate, pull the control stalk towards you to the ON position.

Set Cruising Speed

At your desired speed, press the SET button at the end of the stalk. The set speed along with respective indictor light is show in the instrument cluster.

Changing Speed

There are several ways to change your speed:

  • Accelerate or decelerate, then press the SET button again.
  • Push the stalk up or down one detent to increase/decrease speed in 1 mph increments.
  • Push the stalk up or down to the second detent to increase/decrease speed in 5 mph increments.

To change the targeted distance to the vehicle ahead:

  • Tap the rocker switch to display the current set distance.
  • To increase or decrease the distance setting, tap the switch again toward + or -.

Cancel/Resume

1. To cancel, press the brake pedal or push the stalk briefly away from you one detent to the CANCEL position.

2. The indicator light will go off in the driver information display.

3. To resume, pull the stalk toward you; you will return to your set speed.
Your most recently set speed remains in memory until you turn off cruise control or your vehicle off.

Lane Guidance

To turn lane guidance on or off, short press the button on the end of the turn signal stalk or find the setting in the MMI. The color of the triangular indicators in the driver information display reflects the system state of Lane Guidance. System active is shown with green arrows pointing towards a green vehicle. System on but passive is shown with white arrows pointing towards a white vehicle. When the system is switched off, the vehicle is white with no visible arrows.

Additional Features:

Adaptive Cruise Assist includes advanced comfort features that can be selected in the MMI menu:

  • Usage of speed limits
  • Adaptation to route ahead
  • Driving style

Limitations:

  • Both hands must be on the steering wheel.
  • To keep you centered in the lane, the vehicle must be able to detect clear road markings; if the markings are clear, the green indicator light in your digital cockpit will include green arrows.
  • Once activated, system only operates between 0 and 100 mph. Always obey all speed and traffic laws.
  • Braking ability may be affected by road conditions and tire grip.
  • Designed to detect vehicles that are moving in the same direction of travel; does not react to oncoming or intersecting vehicles.
  • Only reacts to objects within the sensor’s line of sight; some vehicles such as those depicted below are not detected until they are within the sensor’s line of sight.

The following are some examples of situations that can lead to unwanted braking:

  • Damage to or misalignment of the sensor or sensor mounting.
  • Sensor blockage, which can be caused by ice/snow buildup, dirt, mud or leaves.
  • Towing heavy trailers or carrying heavy cargo in the rear of the vehicle, which can elevate the front of the vehicle and change sensor angles.
  • Curvature in the road.

The following situations can disable the system:

  • Damage to, misalignment of or blockage of the sensor.
  • Towing heavy trailers or carrying heavy cargo in the rear of the vehicle, which can elevate the front of the vehicle and change sensor angles.

System may not keep the vehicle in the lane in the following conditions:

  • Poor weather conditions
  • Unclear lane markings
  • Driving on a narrow curve

Features may vary between models. Please review your owner’s manual for more information.
