Your interface to the worldOur approach to driver convenience can best be summed up in three words: elegant, intuitive simplicity. Making the complex manageable, accessible, second nature. After all, your Audi is quite literally an extension of who you are. While driving, it becomes your primary interface to the world. And with progressive systems like our Multi Media Interface (MMI®), the DVD-based Audi Navigation System, optional satellite radio, and built-in Bluetooth® compatibility, we make certain you stay connected to the road, the ride, and everything else that matters most to you. Multi Media Interface® The Audi Multi Media Interface® is an integral operating concept for the logically simple and intuitive operation of fitted vehicle and infotainment components. The MMI® consists essentially of two elements: the MMI® terminal in the center console and the MMI® display, a monochrome or color monitor in the dashboard. The central element of the MMI® terminal is a control button that can be turned and pressed, with four control keys grouped around it. On either side of the terminal there are a total of eight function keys with which the main menus can be called up directly.
The main functions of the system - entertainment, communication, information and control of vehicle systems - are accessed using the eight permanently assigned function keys. Within the individual menus, the driver activates the required functions by turning/pressing the control button. It is intentional that not all settings can be altered in the MMI®. Due to the importance of temperature settings for the passengers, for example, a separate control panel has been retained for the automatic air conditioning.
Navigation systemThe GPS system can be used to determine a person's precise location in terms of longitude, latitude and altitude. The in-car navigation system receives these signals. At the same time the speedometer's velocity signal and the direction in which the car is traveling according to an electronic compass are included in the calculation to achieve greater precision.
Depending on version, the navigation system uses maps stored on CD or DVD - these are either geographic data or complete, graphic maps depending on version. Once a destination has been entered, the navigation computer integrated into the system calculates the quickest or shortest route to the destination from the vehicle's current location and, throughout the route guidance process, compares the calculated route with the vehicle's current position. If these do not coincide - because the driver has decided to take a different route to avoid a traffic jam, for example - an adapted route is calculated. Bluetooth®Bluetooth® is a wireless technology standard that allows different types of electronic devices to interact via short-range radio waves. Within that standard are several subgroups or "profiles" for specific device interactions, such as phone call handling or fax data transfer. Not all Bluetooth® - enabled devices include the same profiles. The Audi Phone Preparation with Bluetooth system utilizes the Hands Free Profile.
*Your Audi vehicle may be equipped with a phone preparation utilizing a Bluetooth® interface to enable hands-free functionality (compatible mobile phones sold separately). You will need a Bluetooth® - enabled mobile phone in order to utilize this function. Not all Bluetooth® - enabled mobile phone models are compatible with Audi's phone preparation. Refer to www.audiusa.com/bluetooth or contact your local Audi dealer for the latest listing of compatible phones. Audi recommends the use of the Audi phone cradle (sold separately) with your mobile phone while operating this vehicle. Satellite RadioSatellite radio offers a wide variety of commercial-free music, world-class news, sports channels and exclusive lifestyle programming via SIRIUS®*. Many Audi vehicles feature, as an option, the installation of satellite radio capability to facilitate access to these subscription services.
