Progress. Together.
Participate in our In-Use Verification Program to support the environment with responsible emissions monitoring.
Our Goal
As part of our continuing effort to produce the highest quality vehicles on the road, and in support of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations, Volkswagen Group of America has committed to evaluating the efficiency of our vehicle emission systems through the In-Use Verification Program.
Qualified vehicles are selected for the program.
Eligibility
To participate in the In-Use Verification Program, your car must meet these basic requirements:
Low Mileage Group
10,000+ miles
Minimum 1 year of service
High Mileage Group
50,000+ miles
Maximum 5 years of service

Get involved
As a member of the Volkswagen Group of America community, you can help our environmental compliance efforts by volunteering your vehicle for participation in our emissions testing program.
We identify and notify owners of eligible vehicles by mail. Owners who volunteer will then be selected at random for participation. All participation is completely voluntary.
Our In-Use Verification Program team will contact the randomly selected volunteers to discuss your vehicle's eligibility by going through a short questionnaire. If your vehicle is eligible, we will schedule time to set up a vehicle exchange!
Incentives
To show our appreciation, participating owners will be offered the following incentives:
Monetary incentive upon completion
Incentives may vary by brand
Unlimited use of a Volkswagen Group vehicle
Provided with a full tank of fuel, on us!
Sparkling clean
Complimentary exterior car wash for your vehicle
Vehicle inspection
Inspection of engine exhaust components to ensure everything is in working order
Full tank of fuel
We will return your vehicle with a full tank
Our process
This government mandated testing for all manufacturers involves the inspection and testing of your vehicle's powertrain and emission-related components.
Procurement of vehicles occurs in California, Colorado, and Michigan. Once vehicles are procured, they are safely and securely shipped in enclosed trucks to our designated testing locations in California and Colorado.

How we test
Your vehicle will be handled with the utmost care and respect, and returned to you as quickly as possible. Participating vehicles are tested by our engineers to evaluate the effectiveness of your vehicle's emissions systems.
We simulate typical driving conditions in order to collect data about the emissions of your vehicle.
Exhaust Testing
Exhaust testing allows us to monitor emissions produced as a result of specific driving conditions. We place your vehicle on a dynamometer (vehicle treadmill), connect a special hose to the exhaust, and monitor the following scenarios.
- City
- Highway
- Supplemental
City
The city driving cycle lasts about 30 minutes and mimics the stop-and-go style, with an average speed of 20 mph and a maximum speed of 60 mph.
Highway
The highway driving cycle lasts about 15 minutes and simulates a more consistent driving speed, with an average speed of 50 mph and a maximum speed of 60 mph.
Supplemental
US06 Test Cycle is about 10 minutes and simulates on-road acceleration, with an average speed of 50 mph and a maximum speed of 80 mph.

Evaporative Testing
For evaporative testing, we simulate two scenarios: Sealed Housing Evaporative Determination (SHED) and On-board Refueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR).
SHED
The vehicle is placed in an enclosure called the Sealed Housing Evaporative Determination (SHED) chamber where the temperature is varied to measure the level of vapors that are coming from the vehicle and its components.
ORVR
In the refueling scenario, the vehicle is placed in an enclosure called the On-board Refueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR) chamber, to measure the vapors released during the refueling process.

FAQs
When will I receive my incentive?
The incentive check will be given to you when your vehicle is returned after testing.
How are the test results used?
The information from IUVP testing is provided to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The results are used to confirm vehicle emissions are performing as expected.
Can I purchase the loaner vehicle?
If you are interested in purchasing a loaner vehicle, we can provide contacts for purchasing vehicles.
How can I track my vehicle?
We will remain in contact with you through the entire process. If you have additional questions, please reach out to the contact on your reply card or email us at IUVP@VWGoA.com.
