The McPherson strut forms a connection between the wheel hub and the vehicle body. It has the following functions: to provide wheel suspension, to limit wheel bump and rebound, to attenuate vibration, form a flexible link at the attachment point on the body and to transmit steering movements. Lightweight, high-strength materials are used to reduce unsprung mass to improve handling and ride.
