Out of RosenheimMartin Tomczyk is only just 25-years-old – but nevertheless an old-hand. Well, at least in DTM terms. 2007 is his seventh season in the most popular international touring car race series.
The son of ADAC Sport President Hermann Tomczyk booked his first DTM race win in 2006. Finally! He had to wait long enough for it. Since entering the DTM his speed has never been in doubt. He only shook off the nickname “One lap wonder” in 2004, when he was wingman for friend and team mate Mattias Ekström during the successful title battle.
A major dip in form followed in 2005. Tomczyk was back on top again in 2006 – also thanks to his race engineer Dave Benbow, with whom he gels perfectly. Until recently Martin Tomczyk still lived with his parents in Rosenheim. Moving to Kempten to be close to his team and his girlfriend at that time was an important step towards independence. His look often shows that he still hasn’t fully discovered his own identity: Sometimes he appears clean shaven, sometimes with a beard and sporting mega-cool sunglasses.
Martin Tomczyk, who has been friends with Bastian Schweinsteiger since his school days, is always game for a laugh. He loves playing pranks, his Playstation, digital cameras and any type of technical toys.
In 2007 he must finally prove that his form curve is heading up. His target: “I want to finish in the top three in the championship.” BiographyDate/place of birth 7 December 1981/Rosenheim (D) Place of residence Börwang (D) Status single Height/Weight 1.88 m/81 kgs Motorsport since 1992 (Audi driver since 2001) Career highlights1994- 1st in German Kart Slalom Championship
