Alexandre Prémat is not superstitious, but he does have a ritual: “I wash my helmet before every race”, reveals the young Frenchman, who doesn’t actually look like a racing driver at first glance. However, he’s one of the fastest after donning the freshly washed helmet.
Prémat made a name for himself in single-seaters. He was runner-up in the Formula 3 Eursoseries, won in Macau, helped France to the Nations title in the A1 Grand Prix Series and fought for GP2 championship honours for two years – as team mate to shooting stars Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, who both now drive in Formula 1.
Prémat has even had a taste of Formula 1 as third driver for the Spyker-Team. Now he’s gunning for the DTM and also dreams of competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As a Frenchman, Le Mans is special to him and Tom Kristensen, as “King of Le Mans”, the best racing driver ever. As a DTM newcomer he looks forward to the tough duels and working together with the Audi Sport technicians.
If he hadn’t been a racing driver he would possibly be an engineer himself today. Prémat inherited his interest in motorsport as he lay in his cradle: His father worked in the industry and even started in the Dakar Rally. Alexandre met his partner Cléo at the race track.
And the goals for his debut DTM season? “To learn as quickly as possible and help Audi to win the title.”
